About Us

The search for answers to these questions and more has led many to give up on God and Church altogether. You have heard many say, “I’m not into organized religion”; fair enough, we aren’t either! What we are into is discovering the truth of God as He has revealed Himself through His Word and His Son, Jesus Christ. God has made Himself known and knowable to us and we want to know Him. Let’s separate fact from fiction, faith from presumption and get to the heart of our human condition. God is real and He wants you to know Him and become the person He has made you to be

History

Calvary Chapel Half Moon Bay was founded first as a home Bible study in 1999. Within less than 2 years we started our first Church services on Sunday nights in a local hotel. A few short years later we moved into the city Parks and Recreation building and finally to our current home in 2008. We are a part of the Calvary Chapel family of Churches which originated with Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and the beginnings of the “Jesus Movement” of the late 60’s.

What to expect

At Calvary Chapel HMB, you’ll find a body of believers that is generally relaxed in our style, but serious in our worship and study of God’s Word. Our worship services tend to include a range of music from the classic hymns you may have grown up with to more modern praise choruses from Chris Tomlin and Delirious. You’ll find folks dressed in everything from suits and dresses to shorts and sandals. We’re just happy to have you here! Like all Calvary Chapels we are committed to the verse by verse teaching of God’s Word. While our style is contemporary and casual our theology is Biblical and conservative.

What we believe

The Bible

We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God.

God

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ; in His virgin birth; in His sinless life; in His miracles; in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood; in His bodily resurrection; in His ascension to the right hand of the Father; and in His personal return in power and glory.

Salvation

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential, and that repentance from sin and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is the only way to come into a relationship with God.

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life; we further believe His power and gifts are available to believers today.

The Resurrection

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

Early Church Practices

We believe it is important to uphold the Scriptural practices of the early church. Therefore, we hold to the practice of water baptism and the regular taking of communion. We do not believe that either of these practices is essential for salvation but that they serve as a demonstration of our living faith in Christ.
